What is required in my application?
Complete applications must include:
- a letter of introduction
- a brief CV
- academic transcripts up to year 3 semester 1
- a list of all clinical placements
- clinical assessments from year 2 and 3
- a passport sized photo
- contacts of two professional referees (who must be clinical)
- current National Police Check (certified copy)
- current Victorian Working with Children Check (certified copy).
What are the requirements to be eligible to apply?
Grampians Health Stawell uses the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) computer match system for graduate nurse program applications. Please refer to their website for eligibility requirements: https://www.pmcv.com.au/
I am an interstate or international applicant. Am I eligible to apply?
Grampians Health Stawell uses the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria computer match program for all graduate positions. However, if you are ineligible for computer match (as per PMCV criteria) you may send your details to the Clinical Education Coordinator at Grampians Health Stawell for consideration in the event of unmatched vacancies.
Who do I address my letter of application to?

Does my application need to be complete to be considered for an interview?
Yes. Applications that are incomplete will not be considered for interview.
What is required for a copy of a document to be certified?
There are a range of individuals who are authorised to certify documentation. Please refer to the AHPRA list of requirements at the link below when providing certified true copies of required documents at https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registration-Process/Certifying-Documents.aspx
Who can I use as a referee?
A minimum of two professional referees from 2nd and 3rd year clinical placements are required as part of your application (clinical facilitators from mental health placements are not to be used).
How are interviews conducted at SRH?
Grampians Health Stawell will utilise PMCV online interviews; further interviews may be conducted.
What sort of questions should I expect in the interview?
Candidates will be asked a variety of questions relating to adult learning, clinical scenarios, communication and professional issues. Questions are based on the ANMC Competencies.
What medical support is available to me at SRH?
Visiting Medical Officers attend Grampians Health Stawell as needed for patient care. VMO’s work closely with nursing staff to plan and deliver the medical care of inpatients.
What involvement with Allied Health will I have at Grampians Health Stawell?
Grampians Health Stawell nurses work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Allied Health disciplines across Grampians Health Stawell include Community Health Nursing, Diabetes Education, Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Social Work and Speech Pathology.
Do graduate nurses work full-time or part-time at Grampians Health Stawell?
All graduates are employed at 0.8 EFT (8 shifts/64 hours per fortnight).
Will I have a preceptor?
Yes. Graduates are allocated a preceptor/s in each clinical area for the duration of each rotation.
What clinical support is available to me?
Graduates are supported through the program by members of the Education Team. A Clinical Nurse Educator works closely with graduates and their preceptors / managers during all rotations to ensure a smooth and successful transition into professional practice.
What does the program include?
Grampians Health Stawell offers an extensive orientation at the start of the program and provides graduates with supernumerary time at the commencement of each rotation. Graduates attend study days with other graduate nurses within the Grampians region throughout the program. Graduates also have access to an innovative and interactive online learning platform and are required to complete small project work that aligns with NSQHS Standards.
When does the GNP start?
The program commences in February 2024 and is 52 weeks in duration.
Other than clinical practice, what else is involved in the GNP?
In addition to clinical rotations as outlined above, graduates are required to:
- Attend fortnightly graduate support sessions.
- Conduct an in-service presentation to colleagues.
- Complete specified clinical competencies (e.g. IV cannulation).
- Complete a quality improvement project.
- Complete a comprehensive patient case study with a focus on one ethical issue.
- Attend rostered study days with other graduates within the region.
What opportunities are available to graduates at the end of the program?
Graduate nurses are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to the Director of Clinical Services towards the end of the program regarding future employment opportunities at Grampians Health Stawell.
