Inpatient Billing

Public
Medicare covers public patient bed fees, x-rays and pathology.

Private
By utilising your private health cover when in Stawell Regional Health you benefit the Hospital in a substantial way. Fees raised by the Hospital are retained by it for use in this community. We bill private health funds on behalf of patients for the majority of inpatient accounts for bed fees, consults, and radiology. Some specialists do their own claiming. Private patients will not incur an out pocket for hospital bed fees, consultations or radiology as long as you are covered from your health fund for your admission.

For Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card holders, your hospital stay will be fully covered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). White Card holders must notify the hospital as soon as possible so your fees can be presented to the DVA for consideration of payment.

Self-funded
Self-funded patients are responsible for all costs associated with their admission. A quote is provided by the surgeons’ rooms prior to admission for surgery. Please note that the quote is an estimate and can change depending on the actual services provided.

Outpatient Billing

Urgent Care Centre: When you are seen in the Urgent Care Centre by a doctor, you will receive an account from them which can be submitted to Medicare, however there will be a gap to pay as this service is not government funded. To partially cover the costs of this excellent service, there is an out of pocket fee of $50 which needs to be paid by everyone who sees a doctor.

Radiology: For general X-Rays there is no gap, however for an ultrasound or CT examination, a gap payment should be anticipated. All accounts need to be forwarded to Medicare for a rebate.

Stawell (Sloane St) Collection Centre: Australian Clinical Labs’s fee will be charged and is covered mostly by Medicare, however for some examinations there is a gap.

Allied Health: For Allied Health services, such as physiotherapy or podiatry, the fees charged for these services are determined by the Victorian Government Department of Health. These fees change from time to time and there is no Medicare rebate for these fees.

Bed day fees for Medicare ineligible patients: Contact Stawell Regional Health 03 – 5358 8500 to be provided with current information.
