Radiology team doubles up at Stawell

A British family chasing an Australian lifestyle has helped bolster the radiography team at Grampians Health’s Stawell campus.

Amandeep Kaur has over 10 years of experience working as a Diagnostic Radiographer in the NHS hospitals of England. She and her husband, Ramandeep Singh, wanted to explore Australia and have recently moved to Stawell with their two daughters.

Amandeep’s appointment means the Stawell campus has two full time radiographers for the first time in more than two years. Korean born Sky Yang started late last year, replacing a locum service.

Amandeep said her family enjoyed getting outdoors and wanted to be able to experience that in Australian weather. “I am already loving it here. We have loved everything about Australia so far,” she said.

Amandeep said her family had already enjoyed their first trip to the Grampians. “It was so amazing. We drove up to Boroka Peak and the views from there are stunning. “My husband likes outdoor life and trekking so he loves every bit of it here. We are looking forward to the summer so we can do more.”

Amandeep and Sky will keep up with the demand for X-rays and CT scans at Stawell but Amandeep will also travel to Edenhope to provide X-rays there each Thursday.

Amandeep said she had already started working at Edenhope and the first trip took her by surprise.

“My first visit to Edenhope was a beautiful drive. The town is so relaxed and the people I met were really friendly. I have been welcomed here at Stawell as well.”

Amandeep said her husband is an accountant and despite still running a business in England, he was looking to explore more opportunities here.

“Ramandeep enjoyed cycling, outdoor life and music in England and he and the girls are also keen badminton and piano players.”

Amandeep enjoys cooking in her spare time and particularly loves cooking Indian food.
